Operations Manager

Founded in 1942, the North Carolina Master Chorale is committed to bringing the very finest in choral music performance to Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill audiences. Under the direction of Dr. Alfred E. Sturgis since 1993, the Chorale boasts a 170-voice Symphonic Chorus and a smaller, professional Chamber Choir whose size varies by project. The mission of the North Carolina Master Chorale is to enrich the cultural lives of our communities through exceptional choral music. The vision of the North Carolina Master Chorale is to be the region’s premier organization for the advancement of the choral art.

The Operations Manager is responsible for the management of all operational aspects of the Chorale. The Operations Manager reports to the Executive Director and to the Music Director.

Chorus Operations

  • Communicate with chorus members via Chorus Connection, email, and other announcements to keep them informed of chorus schedule, expectations, logistics, etc.

  • Oversee the exchange of information with the chorus Section Secretaries to maintain records of chorus members’ participation in rehearsal and concert programs.

  • Work with the Executive and Music Directors for chorus rehearsal and concert plans.

  • Supervise and coordinate sales of music scores and concert attire and collection of singers’ dues.

  • Manage music library and assist Music Director with music for instrumentalists.

  • During dress rehearsals and performances, manage on-site stage and backstage logistics.

  • Coordinate concert venue set-up needs.

 

Financial / Administrative Management

  • Record the sales of music scores, concert attire and payment of singers’ dues.

  • Manage the sales of tickets, both subscription and individual, and manage communication with venue staff for Ticketmaster.

  • Prepare box office and provide assistance to Box Office Assistant.

  • Prepare mailings.

  • Recruit volunteers for clerical and concert support.

  • Respond to general NCMC emails and calls, processing ticket requests as needed.

  • Manage NCMC office and office supplies.

  • Assist with educational and community outreach programs.

  • Assist with managing fundraising events.

  • Perform other duties and tasks as requested.

 

Youth Choir Operations

  • Assist with registration of Youth Choir.

  • Assist Youth Choir Director with communication to students and families.

  • Provide Youth Choir Director with operations support as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Business or related field

  • Experience in the performing arts is essential to the success of this position. Preference would be given to a candidate that has spent time in a choir or orchestra, whether as a musician or member of the administrative team.

  • Familiarity with the choral and choral/orchestral repertoire.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Confident and eloquent presentation skills

  • Organized with excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to maintain a professional, engaging, and positive attitude during high pressure situations

  • Team oriented and flexible, but able to work independently

  • Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace programs and ability to learn other software and database programs

  • Must be available to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends

  • Able to lift 30 pound boxes of programs and other concert materials.

  • Valid driver’s license required.

 

This is a full-time, salaried position based in Raleigh, North Carolina. This is a hybrid (in-office/work from home) position with rehearsal, concert, and special event duties on evenings and some weekends.

North Carolina Master Chorale is a fully vaccinated workplace and requires proof of full vaccination with boosters. When conditions warrant, the candidate hired for this position must be comfortable implementing any protective protocols deemed necessary by NCMC management. Implementation will be supported by the Executive Director and NCMC Board.

Salary Range - $36,000 - $40,000
